The ending of the story is not rewarding in the slightest and overall the story reads like a police report versus a story. Edgar was the second of three children.

It was a completely different experience from The Murders misherio the Rue Morgue because Dupin basically decided to not let the narrator speak and just talked endlessly about his deductions without even pausing for a trip to the loo. His detective, the proto Sherlock, August Dupin presents forensic facts, then sifts through them to deduce how the crime was committed.

This story definitely gives you detailed insight into what a mystery author must imagine as the inner workings of a fictional sleuth’s mind like Dupin or Sherlock Holmes. Chances are, without Poe’s interest in the case of her murder, and his subsequent writing of this story, Mary Rogers would have been a murdered woman lost to history.

Dupin is not a dynamic character. So not only has Poe been painfully dull, not only has he changed the names and still protected no one, and not only has he clearly written this to publish his thoughts on the case and maybe take some credit for solving it he didn’tbut he thought he might as well try and get some money off the tragedy by bastardising the case in this sleep inducing rubbish and, you know, keep mentioning Murder in the Rue Morgue, ‘if you like this story, read my other works’.

I found it boring, as this time around, the horrific murder descriptions and inventively unexpected conclusions were both sacrificed to an overly-detailed analysis on what kind of clothes the ek was wearing, and how they would have torn different based on different angles and bullshit like that.
